Small modular reactors
April 23 – Energy, and especially electricity, is nowadays addressed at every corner and affected by many aspects. One of them is the ageing coal-fired power plants that we will have to replace with new sources in the future. All this can be achieved, for example, by converting coal sites to nuclear. What is involved in preparing a site for a source? What kind of sources will they be? And which sites are involved? Small modular reactors (SMRs) have become perhaps an overused word in the media. But what is the reality of these words, and how far do the CEZ Group's ambitions in building SMRs extend? Why, if it is a well-known technology, is there still none standing in the Western world? Wouldn't just large units be enough in our energy sector? The answers were provided by nuclear power experts from CEZ at the lecture.
