FME TUL is a university faculty whose primary role is education (Pillar I) based on VVI approaches (Pillar II). In this context, the social relevance of activities (Pillar III), i.e. content, proportion/volume of activities, and reflection on educational activity, should be perceived. FME TUL is stable regarding staff. It is relatively subtle institution, in comparison with other mechanical faculties, but at the same time providing the whole spectrum of essential engineering disciplines necessary for the preservation and development of Mechanical Engineering.
Collaborative projects bring new R&D ideas and represent a stable funding item in the Faculty budget. Colaborative projects carry a high number of significant results with high potential for practical usage, i.e. patents, licenses, prototypes, pilot plants, proven technologies, utility models.
Faculty carries out a significant volume of Contract Research in the Czech Republic and abroad. Contract research addresses topics specified by the contracting authorities. The supply and connection correspond to Faculty capacity. It belongs to one of the faculty's strengths.
An important scientific research area is pre-application research, which Faculty is implementing within the R&D Projects with public support Operational Programme Research, Development and Education and within Cluster NANOPROGRESS with public support Operational Programme Enterprise and Innovations for Competitiveness.
