Dean Jaromír Moravec Begins His Second Term (2026–2030)
He will lead our university’s oldest faculty as its sixteenth dean for the term from 2026 to 2029. His term begins on February 1, 2026. He revealed more about his goals in an interview.

Field Trip to TOS VARNSDORF a.s.
February, 2 – The first in a series of field trips organized during the summer semester to companies that are members of the TUL Faculty of Mechanical Engineering’s Industrial Council has begun. The event generated great interest among students and was fully booked, with 15 students

Erasmus/International Students
February, 4 – We welcomed a large group of Erasmus+ students to our faculty who will be studying here during the summer semester. They arrived from France, Turkey, Greece, Germany, Poland, Portugal, and Spain. Students from Brazil, Ecuador, and Romania will be joining us soon.

Inspiration and Sharing as a Foundation
February, 3–4 – Dr. Luboš Běhálek, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, participated in a workshop on teaching support. A discussion is underway at TUL regarding the establishment of a methodological center for teaching support – a platform for developing teaching competencies. The fact that the quality of teaching is our priority is evidenced by the university’s decision to become a founding member of the Czech Association for Innovation in University Education this year.

TUL Delegation to the University of Galati in Romania
February, 10–12 – Associate Professor Michal Petrů was part of the TUL delegation on an international business trip to the event “RUN-EU Onboarding EPA-Mission at UGAL, Institutional Visit” at the Romanian “DUNAREA DE JOS” University of Galati (UGAL) as part of RUN-EU 2.0 – Alliance of European Universities (101124674). Michal Petrů and other TUL representatives participated in networking sessions with Romanian partners and a campus tour, including visits to the various faculties of the RUN-EU partner university, UGAL. During these visits, B2B meetings were also held with UGAL representatives regarding research and development (R&D) and education in the fields of and technical sciences. UGAL has a number of faculties, such as the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Automation, Computers, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and the Faculty of Sciences and Environment, and offers opportunities for collaboration through exchange programs, mobility initiatives, and participation in new projects.

Greetings from Chiang Mai University in Thailand
Filip Švejcar, a doctoral student, sent us a greeting from his Erasmus study abroad program at Chiang Mai University, specifically at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, where he is studying Mechanical Engineering. Chiang Mai is a completely different world from Liberec. It’s hot here, there are scooters everywhere, street food on every corner – often even right in the middle of the sidewalk – and the pace of life adapts to the heat; most of the food is spicy. The beginning of my stay was also a bit of an adventure; getting a visa was quite a challenge, but I managed it in the end. The university campus is huge, and I was surprised by how many activities are available outside of class. In addition to the standard buildings and classrooms, there’s a stadium, a 50-meter swimming pool, various sports fields, and even archery. As for my studies, it’s been a great experience for me – above all, I’m seeing a different approach, a different environment, and meeting people from various countries. And outside of school, it’s just as much a school of life; you learn to function in completely different circumstances here. Erasmus is an experience that gives you much more than just traditional coursework. As for communication, it can be a bit of a challenge at times, but since English isn’t the Thai people’s native language, they often speak slowly, which makes it fairly easy to understand them. International Day of Women and Girls in Science
February, 18 – As has become tradition, Associate Professor Jaromír Moravec, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering TUL, invited his female colleagues to an informal get-together and chat. He thanked them for their work; together, they shared experiences from their academic careers and discussed new ideas. Women are not only indispensable in science; they bring new perspectives and broaden our view of issues related to scientific research

Circular Society Event: Innovation Meets Regions 2026 / NHL Stenden – University of Applied Sciences
February, 18–20 – Our colleagues, Associate Professor Pavel Brdlík and Filip Zelenka, a student in the master’s program in Plastics and Composites Technology, participated in a three-day professional colloquium “Circular Society Event: Innovation Meets Regions 2026” as part of the @run_europeanuniversity alliance at @nhlstenden in Leeuwarden. The event brought together researchers, students, and industry partners who shared ideas, presented innovations, and explored new opportunities for collaboration. The main focus was on the challenges and innovations of the circular economy in the areas of waste, water, and plastics.

Sustainable Engineering
February, 24 – Third- and fourth-year students majoring in Ecology and the Environment at the Secondary Vocational School and Technical College in Česká Lípa participated in a hands-on workshop demonstrating how modern manufacturing is shifting toward sustainable solutions. The program also included a presentation of the professional bachelor’s degree program in Sustainable Engineering—a program that prepares graduates with knowledge of materials, technological processes, and their impacts on the environment and human health.

Development Measurements in Real-World Industrial Practice
February, 25 – The Department of Energy Equipment FME TUL , in collaboration with VÚTS, a.s., held a lecture focused on the activities of the research institute’s Measurement Division, which is dedicated to a wide range of technical analyses, including: measurement and analysis of physical quantities, research and development of measurement sensors, development of measurement methods and instruments, and development of specialized testing equipment. The lecture was part of a series of supplementary lectures for the course “Technical Measurements.”

Finding a Path for Deep Tech
February, 27 – Artificial intelligence, robotics, and advanced materials are transforming industry faster than ever before. A meeting of experts from academia and industry at the Technical University of Liberec addressed questions and answers regarding how to respond to this transformation in education and research. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was represented by Dean Assoc. Prof. Jaromír Moravec, Assoc. Prof. Pavlína Hájková, Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Marcel Horák, and Assoc. Prof. Pavel Brdlík.

Collaboration with King Mongkut’s University of Technology in Bangkok Continues
February, 23–27 – Dr. Jiří Sobotka from the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology completed a research visit at King Mongkut’s University of Technology in Bangkok, specifically at the Sirindhorn International Thai-German Graduate School of Engineering. He presented his research in lectures titled “Utilization of Contact-less Deformation Analysis for Evaluation of the Plasticity of Metal Sheets” and “Application of Computed Tomography for NDT and Digitalization in the Engineering Industry.” He focused on modern experimental methods for evaluating the plasticity of sheet metal, contactless deformation analysis, and the use of computed tomography in nondestructive testing and digitalization in the engineering industry. The visit also included discussions on developing cooperation in the areas of teaching and joint research projects focused on engineering technology, particularly metal forming. The parties discussed opportunities for student and faculty exchange programs, joint supervision of theses, and participation in international projects.

India Mission
February, 25 to March, 9 – As part of a delegation to India visiting selected Indian universities and research institutes, as part of the European delegation from selected universities in European Union countries, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering T was represented by the Vice Dean for Science, Research, and External Relations, Assoc. Prof. Michal Petrů, and Dr. Pavel Srb from the Department of Machine Parts and Mechanisms. They participated in discussions on the development of Indo-European cooperation in the field of scientific research. The meetings initially took place as part of the International Conference ATSCG 2026 (Advanced Textile Structural Composites & Geosynthetics) at the Technological Institute of Textile & Sciences in Bhiwani, with the participation of prominent representatives from IIT Delhi and the Indian government, including the Minister of Textiles, Mr. Shri Giriraj Singh, and other representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Textiles. The rector of TUL, Assoc. Prof. Aleš Kocourek, also attended ATSCG 2026, where he presented the past, present, and future of TUL. On this occasion, he signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between TUL and TITS Bhiwani, which was represented by its director, Prof. B.K. Behera. Assoc. Prof. Michal Petrů delivered the opening lecture at the plenary session of ATSCG 2026 on the topic “Innovation of Lightweight Composite Structures for Modern Industrial Applications.” Dr. Pavel Srb presented a lecture titled “Development of Hybrid Multiaxial Composites for Battery Boxes with Electromagnetic Shielding and Integrated Thermal Management” in the “Composites” section.
The Indian mission continued at IIT Delhi, where colleagues from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering participated in a two-day seminar and presented on the topic of lightweight composite structures at the Focus Incubation Center for Advanced Composites. The mission then proceeded to M.L.V. Textile & Engineering College in Bhilwara, which is part of Rajasthan Technical University Kota, where Assoc. Prof. Michal Petrů signed an agreement for mutual cooperation between the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at TUL and M.L.V. This serves as a preliminary agreement for a future MoU. Subsequently, Assoc. Prof. Petrů and Dr. Srb delivered presentations. Due to the situation that arose in the Middle East as a result of the war in Arab countries, Assoc. Prof. Petrů was forced to extend his stay. This situation allowed him to also deliver a lecture to representatives of the DRDO (Defense Research and Development Organization, Ministry of Defense of India) in Bangalore. The DRDO is very interested in advanced technologies and materials and has collaborated with TUL in this area in the past; it would like to resume this pre-COVID collaboration.
