Fingers crossed for the team and we wish Magdalena a fast and successful season!
The summer break is a great opportunity for international internships
Two-month internship at our faculty – Supichaya Mo-on, a student at King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok, Thailand, completed a two-month internship at the Department of Engineering Technology under the supervision of Dr. Matin Borůvka. During her internship, she worked on preparing and testing samples for her thesis on "Hybrid thermoplastic composites with natural fillers and fibers from agricultural waste." Supichaya is exploring the use of soybean and peanut husks, mung bean skins, and industrial hemp fibers in the production of biodegradable and compostable materials. Her goal is to find ways to reduce the impact of agricultural waste incineration, which causes a serious smog crisis in Thailand every year. The large amount of agricultural waste in Thailand, which is still mostly disposed of by burning without further use, is the main cause of the annual serious air pollution crisis, caused mainly by the extensive burning of biomass in agricultural areas. At the beginning of this year, the concentration of PM2.5 fine particles (particles 2.5 microns and smaller) reached alarming levels, leading to measures such as curfew exemptions and other government measures.
The internship was made possible thanks to the Erasmus+ KA171 project (call 2024). Thanks to Dr. Martin Borůvka for his excellent international cooperation.
