Czech-Brazilian Academic Cooperation (INCBAC)
March, 4 – A pleasant meeting took place between Vice Dean Milan Bouša and Marcela Válková and four students from Brazil who came to us for a two-month internship as part of our long-term cooperation with The Institute of Czech-Brazilian Academic Cooperation (INCBAC). From January through March, the students worked on their projects at the Department of Vehicles and Engines and the Department of Production Systems and Automation. A big thank you goes to their mentors – Robert Voženílek, Josef Břoušek, Michal Moučka, and Andriy Shynkarenko. The interns enjoyed their time with us, both personally and professionally. We are very grateful to all of them for visiting us from so far away, and we look forward to meeting again in the future – whether with them or with their friends and colleagues from their home universities.

We held a presentation for prospective students from India
March, 5 – The leadership of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, together with the Department of Production Systems and Automation, presented the faculty to students, prospective students, and staff from India (Europe Study Centre). The on-line meeting included a presentation on the TUL Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, its degree programs, research areas, and international programs. The presentation also included a live stream of the laboratory and motion capture systems, organized by Dr. Miroslav Vavroušek and Dr. Petr Keller. At the end, over 10 questions regarding studying at the faculty were answered.

The TUL Faculty of Industrial Technology and Management (FITM) Presented Itself at King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB)
The Faculty of Industrial Technology and Management (FITM) at King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), Prachinburi Campus, organized a meeting with a representative from the Technical University of Liberec, Czech Republic, to discuss academic cooperation and support for student mobility between the two institutions. Dr. Martin Boruvka from the Department of Mechanical Engineering attended the meeting on behalf of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. During the meeting, FITM students preparing to participate in an exchange program in the Czech Republic had the opportunity to meet and speak with Dr. Boruvka. He also gave a presentation introducing the Technical University of Liberec, including its academic programs, campus environment, and student life.
The meeting was chaired by Associate Professor Dr. Thanya Parameshthanuwat, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Research, with other faculty members in attendance, including Associate Professor Dr. Supiti Kulchan, representing Corporate Communications and Industrial Relations; Associate Professor Dr. Jittimond Wongs, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs; Associate Professor Dr. Jakrapan Ngaothong; Dr. Naremon Samrit; and Ms. Thanatcha Kongsong, academic staff members at FITM.

Field Trip to DEPRAG CZ a.s.
March, 6 – Students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering went on another field trip, this time to DEPRAG CZ a.s. in Lázně Bělohrad. They saw state-of-the-art automation, fastening technology, and robotic applications directly in development and in live operation. The company is a member of the TUL Faculty of Mechanical Engineering’s Industrial Council. And we were all the more pleased to meet a number of our graduates there who are at the forefront of technology.

Technology isn’t just about theory – it’s about ideas, development, testing, and finding new solutions that make a real impact
March, 16 – We welcomed students from the Secondary Technical School and Higher Vocational School in Chomutov to our “Day of Technology” project event. We showcased four laboratories from among the more than two dozen state-of-the-art facilities available to our students. They toured the TUL KVM laboratory, where we focus on powertrains and the development of autonomous vehicles; the 3D printing laboratory, which is among the best in the field and serves as the National Center of Competence for Industrial 3D Printing; the TUL KSR Robotics Laboratory with demonstrations of optical recognition and palletizing, and the Experimental Mechanics Laboratory. Patrik Skýpala introduced the TUL Racing student formula team and discussed his research in mechanics as part of his doctoral studies. Vice Dean Luboš Běhálek then provided an overview of the degree programs, particularly the bachelor’s programs in Mechanical Engineering and Sustainable Engineering.

Automotive Transmission – Modification of Spur Gears
March, 17 – The Department of Vehicles and Engines hosted a technical lecture by Ing. Bohuslav Novotný, former head of transmission development at ŠA. The lecture focused on the design of gearing for vehicle transmissions and on diagnostic methods used to verify the correctness of the design.

Meeting with Representatives of ISN Prague s.r.o.
March, 18 – A meeting was held at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering with representatives of ISN Prague s.r.o., one of Europe’s leading agencies specializing in the recruitment of international students and a member of prominent non-governmental associations such as AMTE (Mexico), UED and YEDAB (Turkey), and ANEX (Colombia). Faculty leadership first discussed possibilities for cooperation, followed by a tour of TUL and selected departments within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

Small Modular Reactors
March, 18 – The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, in cooperation with the Faculty of Mechatronics at TUL, organized a lecture for students and the public. Ing. Martin Blažek, an SMR development specialist at ČEZ, presented Small Modular Reactors as one of the paths toward the Czech Republic’s energy self-sufficiency and low-emission energy. SMRs are among the possible paths toward the Czech Republic’s energy self-sufficiency and the development of low-emission energy. In addition to their role in the future energy mix, it was noted that they can effectively complement large nuclear power plants while helping to transform today’s energy sector toward stable, zero-emission sources. At the same time, ČEZ plans to develop SMRs in other locations across the Czech Republic and views them as an important part of the long-term modernization of the Czech energy sector. Interest was high – the event was attended by university students and high school students alike.

Creative InnoMind
March, 19 – The regional round of the Science and Technology Festival impressed the jury, on which the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was represented by František Koblasa from the Department of Production Systems and Automation and Luboš Běhálek, Vice Dean for Educational Activities. The jury faced a truly difficult task in selecting the best projects. Each project embodied the creativity, ingenuity, and passion of its creators. Energy storage, a SCARA robot, RC models, hydrogen propulsion, a design for a trimming station, a jig for crimping hoses into fittings, LEGO in motion, CO₂ measurement, and the Rutherford experiment. This is just a small selection of the topics covered in the students’ projects.

Project Day at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
March, 19 – Together with students from the Integrated Secondary School in Vysoké nad Jizerou and their ROBObeasts VEX V5 team, we immersed ourselves in robotics, automation, and practical technical thinking. What we enjoyed most was watching how the initial questions quickly turned into a design debate – and before long, we were discussing Lagrange’s equation. It is in moments like these that technology comes to life, sparks curiosity, and opens up new possibilities. Even mathematical models suddenly become meaningful and a natural part of technical thinking. Thank you to the students of ISŠ Vysoké nad Jizerou and to our colleagues and students from the Department of Glassmaking Machinery and Robotics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, TUL, for your energy, the great atmosphere, and this inspiring gathering!

We Were Looking for Future Scientific Leaders – TUL on the CIMF Festival Jury
March, 19 – Forty-one elementary and high school students from across the region participated in the third annual regional round of the CIMF Science and Technology Festival. All competed for a spot in the national round, which will take place on April 16 at the headquarters of the Academy of Sciences. From there, the best participants will advance to international competitions, where they will represent the Czech Republic. The bar was set very high in Liberec. The Technical University of Liberec provided the event’s academic oversight, sending a ten-member jury composed of experts from across its faculties. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was represented by Vice Dean Ing. Luboš Běhálek, Ph.D., and Ing. František Koblasa, Ph.D., from the Department of Production Systems and Automation.

From the Lab to Business
March, 24 – Together with Lipo.ink, we explored a topic that is particularly relevant to students in technical fields: How an idea becomes a real project, product, or business. Ondřej Král, director of Lipo.ink, opened the event by demonstrating that entrepreneurship doesn’t have to start with a groundbreaking invention. Often more important than a “brilliant idea” is a shift in mindset – from an engineer who wants to do everything alone to someone who can develop their idea, collaborate with others, and bring it to market. This was followed by the specific “story” of the startup @bee_hydro. Its founders started out as students; during the COVID-19 pandemic, they tried growing microgreens in an apartment building and gradually built an urban hydroponic farm in Liberec with the goal of supplying fresh vegetables to businesses and developing their own smart home garden system. Lukáš Veselý, a TUL graduate, shared his experiences.

March, 25 – The 15th meeting of the TUL Faculty Student Council took place.

Education Tour 2026 – We welcomed prospective students from Ukraine to the faculty
March, 26 – The goal of the project is to introduce Ukrainian high school students, in their native language, to study opportunities at the Technical University of Liberec; therefore, individual faculties are presented to them by their fellow countrymen. Our student Konstiantyn shared his journey through the mechanical engineering program—from his first lectures to his bachelor’s thesis, which he is currently working on: the structural design and simulation of a front wing for a Formula Student single-seater. Studying isn’t just about learning. It’s about projects, experiences, and, above all, the people who help us move forward.

Internationalization of Activities
March, 26 – A meeting between Vice Dean Dr. Milan Bouša and department representatives focused on the internationalization of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The main topic was the development of cooperation with existing partners both within and outside the EU, particularly in the areas of professional internships, the organization of intensive programs (BIP), guest lectures, and the potential streaming of classes and laboratory sessions. Participants discussed ways to improve the quality of applicants to English-language programs, a goal that could be aided by the new agency ISN Prague, with whose representatives the faculty leadership met on March 18 (see above). Attention was also given to the development of double-degree programs, the promotion of doctoral studies, and the expanding range of activities within the RUN-EU alliance.

March, 26 – A meeting was held at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering with Mr. Sivaraman Pandian from the ESC agency, which specializes in recruiting students from India. Faculty and university leadership first discussed with the guest the possibilities for developing cooperation regarding Indian students studying in Liberec. This was followed by a tour of selected research facilities, during which Mr. Pandian visited the Vehicle and Engine Laboratory and the research group focused on the design of machines for the production of nanofibers. The program also included a visit to the company UCT Fluid Delivery Solutions. We believe that this visit will further strengthen the international environment at our faculty.
