We Celebrated the Festival of Lights Diwali
October 20 – October 21 is the main day of celebration of the festival of lights Diwali – an important Hindu holiday that symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. In Hindu tradition, Diwali commemorates the return of the god Rama to his city of Ayodhya after his victory over the demon Ravana. At that time, the inhabitants of the city lit rows of lamps to solemnly welcome their king. At the Technical University of Liberec and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, we commemorated this holiday with the students for the second time and followed up with the year 2024. A big thank you goes to the Foreign Affairs Department of TUL for the great organization and also to all the students and colleagues who joined the celebration today.

Visit from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Tuzla (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
October 20 – At the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, we welcomed colleagues from a friendly faculty from Bosnia and Herzegovina. A cooperation agreement was concluded between the two faculties. Furthermore, research topics for international projects, implementation of a joint summer school, student exchanges and other online forms of cooperation were discussed. The intention is to re-submit the application for Erasmus KA171, to create a new network within the CEEPUS program in order to maximally support the possible mobility of students and academics from both faculties. We currently have a valid Erasmus Plus Credit Mobility. Colleagues arrived for a weekly visit within the selected network of the CEEPUS program. In the following month, two more students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering UNTZ will visit our faculty, who will work on a project at the Department of Glass Producing Machines and Robotics workplace under the guidance of dr. Ondrej Matúšek.

Candidate for the position of dean elected

Visit to the Fraunhofer IWU research institute
October 23 – Today, we visited the Fraunhofer IWU research institute (Kunststoffzentrum Oberlausitz) in Zittau with the students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering TUL. Fraunhofer IWU is our long-term partner – already almost two years ago, it offered four internship positions to students of our faculty, who took full advantage of this opportunity. Today, three of our graduates are working here, having found their professional employment at the institute. The opportunity to participate in research projects on the German border is repeated this year as well. Fraunhofer IWU currently offers two internship positions in the field of 3D printing of injection molds using SLA and SLM methods. Today's visit with the vice-dean for educational activities was therefore intended for students who wanted to learn more about the content of the internship and get an insight into the current projects that the institute's team is working on. Cooperation, practice and experience without borders!

Award from the International Scientific Conference "Innovations and Industrial Technologies"
At the International Scientific Conference "Innovations and Industrial Technologies", organized by Uniwersytet Kaliski, PhD student from our Department of Machine Parts and Mechanisms Akshat Tegginamath won 1st place in the competition of young scientists for his poster contribution: "Numerical modeling of hybrid polymer composites for selected automotive parts". Congratulations to Akshat and his supervisor Associate Professor Michal Petrů for this excellent success!

We are strengthening cooperation with India
October 17 to 28 – Under the leadership of Vice Dean Jan Valtera, the faculty welcomed prominent colleagues from the Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute Prof. Dr. Velangany Cyril Raj and Prof. Dr. Venkatachalam Natarajan from Tamil Nadu, India. During the week-long program, we discussed the possibilities of expanding cooperation in education and research. Our partners have shown great interest in organizing events that will bring studies at our faculty closer to Indian students. We will present the study offer, laboratory equipment and student facilities in Liberec to the first group of twenty students already next year. At the same time, an international research group focused on the processing of coconut and banana fibers is being created - a great step to strengthen joint research. We are also planning an Indian-Czech conference and other joint projects.

"Elastography: Imaging Tissue Stiffness through Inverse Problems" by Dr. Uri Albocher
Elastography is an emerging imaging technique that maps the mechanical properties of soft tissues, offering clinicians a non-invasive tool to detect abnormalities such as tumors and fibrosis by visualizing stiffness variations. In this talk we introduce the fundamental principles of elastography, highlighting how it extends conventional imaging by integrating mechanics with medical imaging. We will discuss the mathematical challenge at its core: the inverse problem of estimating tissue elasticity from measured displacements. We then present the Adjoint Weighted Equation (AWE) method which was proposed as a direct solution approach to the inverse problem. The method has several advantages over the more standard iterative methods but also some shortcomings. We will consider these and present some numerical results demonstrating its effectiveness in recovering elastic properties of inhomogeneous materials.
"Theoretical Understanding as a Foundation for Practical Learning in Engineering Education" by Ilan Zilberman
The lecture will focus on how early theoretical understanding can serve as a foundation for practical learning in engineering education. It presents a pedagogical and research-based model developed at Afeka College of Engineering, exploring how sequencing theory before practice enhances students’ applied learning, spatial reasoning, and confidence in design performance. The session will also highlight key findings from a mixed-method study demonstrating the pedagogical impact of structured, theory-first instruction on students’ learning experience and outcomes.

Education Tour
October 31 – As part of the event, we presented the study programs of our Faculty of Mechanical Engineering to potential applicants from Ukraine and, accompanied by our student Vadym Shepel, we took a look at the teaching laboratories where students learn about robotics, automation and the technological processes of processing bioplastics. studies and teaching in Czech.
